DHAKA, Feb 22, 2025 (BSS) – Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, emphasized today that environmental protection is crucial for shaping the future, urging that development must be pursued in a way that does not unduly strain the natural world.
Rizwana underscored the importance of coexisting harmoniously with nature, stating, "Nature can never be conquered; instead, humanity must learn to live in harmony with it."
In her speech at the first convocation of the University of Scholars, held at the Sena Prangon in Dhaka Cantonment, Rizwana highlighted that sustainability must be integrated into every aspect of life in an ever-evolving world.
She urged the students to actively engage in reducing noise pollution and tackling the growing problem of plastic pollution, pointing out that their responsibilities extend far beyond their own ambitions to include the future of the nation.
"True education is realized when it benefits society and the country. Simply posting on social media will not lead to change. Real transformation requires action," the adviser stated.
Rizwana further emphasized that the future of Bangladesh rests on the decisions made by today's youth, urging them to uphold ethics, values, and a strong sense of responsibility as they move forward in life.
She also stressed the need for an efficient system to ensure that services are accessible to everyone, stating, "Our duty is not only to think about ourselves but also to consider the welfare of society and the nation."
"Service delivery must be simplified to ensure that ordinary citizens don’t face unnecessary obstacles. It’s time for all of us to contribute to the country’s progress. Through collective effort, we can build a prosperous and sustainable Bangladesh," she added.
On the subject of social transformation, Rizwana pointed out that while many often blame others for societal problems, they resist change within themselves. She emphasized that the government cannot drive transformation alone—everyone must be involved in the process.
"If we become aware of our responsibilities, a greener and more sustainable Bangladesh is truly achievable," she concluded.
The event was attended by Professor Dr. M Aminul Islam, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser for the Ministry of Education, Admiral (Retd) Farid Habib, Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University of Scholars, and Prof Dr. Enamul Basher, Vice-Chancellor of the university.
The ceremony concluded with the awarding of graduation certificates, along with medals and certificates for gold medalists. Azam J Chowdhury, Chairman of East Coast Group, served as the Convocation Speaker.
