Expat Motorcyclist Killed in Collision with Bus in Chakaria

A tragic road accident occurred in Chakaria, Cox’s Bazar, on Sunday when a passenger bus collided with a motorcyclist, resulting in the immediate death of a young expatriate. The incident took place at approximately 12:30 PM on the Chittagong–Cox’s Bazar Highway, near the Malumghat area, specifically at Chogirshah Kata.

The deceased has been identified as Shafiul Alam, aged 26, a resident of Ward No. 8, Namor Chiringa, in Chakaria municipality. He was the son of Selim Uddin and had recently returned to Bangladesh last month after working in the United Arab Emirates.

According to highway police and eyewitness reports, Shafiul was riding his motorcycle from Chakaria town towards Cox’s Bazar when the fatal collision occurred. A northbound Hanif Transport bus struck his vehicle at the aforementioned location. The force of the impact caused Shafiul to lose his life instantly, and his motorcycle was left severely damaged.

Malumghat Highway Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge, Md. Mehedi Hasan, told Prothom Alo that the body had been recovered and secured at the local police station. He added that both the bus and the motorcycle involved in the accident had been seized for further investigation. “The bus driver and his assistant fled the scene,” he stated. “We will coordinate with the victim’s family before taking further steps regarding legal proceedings.”

Local sources reported that the bus appeared to be travelling at high speed at the time of the collision, exacerbating the severity of the incident. The accident has cast a shadow of grief over the community, particularly among residents who knew the young expatriate. Authorities have urged drivers to exercise caution and comply with traffic regulations to prevent similar tragedies.
