A deadly explosion outside a courthouse in Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, has left at least 12 people dead and several others injured.
The explosion occurred on Tuesday (November 11) when a car parked near the court building detonated.
A police spokesperson stated, “We are investigating what type of explosion this was, but it is not clear yet. We will provide more details once we receive the forensic report.”
The blast took place near the entrance of the Islamabad District Court, a busy area typically crowded with litigants.
Local media outlets have published graphic images from the scene, showing several bloodied individuals lying near a police van.
In a video shared on social media, flames and thick smoke can be seen rising from the wreckage of a burned car behind a security barrier.
Among the injured were several lawyers. Following the explosion, the court building was evacuated. Those inside were moved through the back doors, and court proceedings were suspended.
Meanwhile, Islamabad’s Deputy Inspector General (DIG), the chief commissioner, and forensic teams arrived at the scene shortly after the explosion. Rescue teams and law enforcement agencies transferred the dead and injured to nearby hospitals.
