Family Protests at Police Station with Victim’s Body

In Brahmanbaria, the family of former student leader Saddam Hossain, 35, staged a protest at the district police station with his body on Friday evening, demanding that a case be filed following his fatal shooting. The demonstration began at around 5:45 pm and continued until 10 pm, when authorities finally accepted a formal complaint.

Earlier in the evening, Saddam’s father, Mostofa Kamal, also known as Mostu Mia, filed a written complaint naming seven individuals, including Delwar Hossain, the district organiser of the Jubo Sreewabek Dal, along with five to seven unidentified persons. However, the complaint had not yet been officially recorded as a case at that time. Kamal emphasised, “We will not leave the police station compound until we receive a copy of the case.”

Saddam was reportedly abducted from his residence in Kandipara around 1:30 am on Thursday. According to family members, Delwar Hossain and his associates, Palash and Babul Mia, were involved. He was rushed to Brahmanbaria General Hospital after being found shot near the Shankar Shah Bari canal bridge, but doctors declared him dead. Saddam leaves behind a wife and two daughters.

Following the post-mortem, his body was handed to the family at 5:45 pm. They then organised a procession to demand justice, eventually bringing the body to the police station and staging a sit-in. Local residents gathered in support, and after assurances from the officer-in-charge that the complaint would be promptly registered, the family briefly left, returning soon after to continue their protest.

The acting OC, Mohammad Azharul Islam, stated that multiple police teams are investigating, and while no arrests have been made, all measures will be taken to recover weapons and apprehend the suspects involved.
