In a coordinated operation conducted late Wednesday evening, the Bangladesh Army and local police jointly apprehended Mahbubur Rahman Sajib, a 31-year-old local youth leader, in possession of an illegal firearm in the Moyendia Bazar area of Boalmari Upazila. The raid commenced at approximately 9:00 pm following intelligence reports indicating that an individual was carrying an unlicensed weapon in the bustling market area.

According to army sources, a team from the 15th Riverine Engineer Battalion, led by the Madhukhali Army Camp, collaborated with Boalmari Police Station to carry out the operation. After surrounding the suspect, the authorities recovered one 7.65-millimetre pistol, a magazine, and two live rounds of ammunition. The arrested individual and the confiscated items were subsequently handed over to the Boalmari Police Station for further processing.

Mahbubur Rahman Sajib is a resident of Moyendia village under Parameshwardi Union and the son of the late Habibur Mia. He currently serves as the Joint Convener of the Upazila branch of the youth political organisation, a fact confirmed by Upazila Youth Leader Minhazur Rahman Lipon.

On Thursday morning, at around 10:45 am, Sub-Inspector Md. Shimul Molla of Boalmari Police Station stated that a case has been filed under the Arms Act. The suspect is currently being interrogated to determine the origin of the firearm and whether there is any connection to organised criminal networks. The authorities confirmed that the accused will be presented before the court shortly.

The administration has emphasised that such operations are part of ongoing efforts to ensure public safety and maintain law and order in the district. Officers involved in the raid took special precautions to prevent harm to local residents while conducting the search.
