Farzana Toma, Who Shouted Obscene Slogans Against Fazlur Rahman, Arrested

Farzana Toma, who recently came under the spotlight for chanting provocative and obscene slogans outside the residence of BNP leader Fazlur Rahman, has been arrested in a police raid. She was apprehended on Friday evening (12 September) from the Jasimuddin area of Uttara.

According to police sources, a case has been filed against her at Uttara West Police Station by the victim’s family, accusing her of extorting Tk 1 million.

Following the case filing, police promptly launched an operation and arrested Farzana Toma along with two of her associates, later producing them before the court.

As per the First Information Report (FIR), the case was lodged by a complainant named Riaz Uddin Ahmed.

The complaint further stated that the accused promised to settle a previous case and pressured the family for the remaining sum by 4:00 pm on Friday (12 September).

On Thursday night (11 September), three individuals introducing themselves as “coordinators” entered the same residence at Road 6, Sector 13 of Uttara. They allegedly demanded Tk 1 million from the family, assuring them that one Delwar Hossain would be exempted from a case.

Although Tk 550,000 was paid, the accused continued to pressurise the family to provide the rest. They also issued multiple threats before leaving.

That same night, police arrested Noman Reza, identified as one of the coordinators, near the Airport Police Station. Based on his information, officers later tracked down Tanzil and Farzana Toma in the Jasimuddin area of Uttara, leading to their arrest.

The arrested individuals had previously staged a demonstration outside the residence of freedom fighter Fazlur Rahman at Segunbagicha. The young woman who wrote placards and chanted obscene slogans against Fazlur Rahman was none other than Farzana Toma herself.

Officials at Uttara West Police Station confirmed: “On the basis of specific complaints, Farzana Toma and two others were arrested. After completing due legal procedures, they have been presented before the court.”

This arrest has once again drawn attention to the activities of the so-called “coordinators”, who allegedly attempt to exploit vulnerable families through threats and extortion.
