Manikganj, 20 February 2026 – A tragic head-on collision between a pickup van and a drum truck in Manikganj Sadar Upazila has left one man dead and another injured. The accident occurred on Friday afternoon around 12:30 PM on the Manikganj–Singair Road, near the Abak Hotel in the Arangbad Tower Station area.
The deceased has been identified as Md. Gias Uddin, 45, son of Sahab Ali, of Uttar Aynapur village in Satutia Upazila. The injured, an 18-year-old helper named Mahbub Hossain, was rushed to Manikganj Sadar Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.
According to police and local sources, the drum truck was travelling towards Singair when it collided head-on with the pickup van coming from the opposite direction. The impact was so severe that the pickup van was completely crushed, and Gias Uddin died instantly at the scene. The helper was rescued by nearby residents who rushed to the site following the loud crash and immediately transported him to the hospital.
The accident caused a temporary traffic halt on the road, disrupting movement for several hours. Police later cleared the wreckage, restoring normal traffic flow.
Officer-in-Charge Md. Ikram Hossain of Manikganj Sadar Police Station confirmed that the body was recovered from the scene and arrangements for a post-mortem examination have been made. He added that an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the collision.
Residents have voiced growing concern over the dangerous driving behaviour frequently witnessed on the Manikganj–Singair Road. They cited excessive speed by heavy vehicles and reckless overtaking as major causes of repeated accidents. Locals are urging the authorities to implement stricter traffic monitoring and effective speed control measures to prevent further tragedies.
