Fatal Motorcycle Collision in Bakerganj, Barishal

A tragic road accident in Bakerganj, Barishal, claimed the life of a young man on Tuesday morning, when two motorcycles collided head-on. The incident also left the other rider critically injured and receiving treatment at a local hospital.

The collision occurred at approximately 8:20 a.m. on 17 March on the Barishal–Kuakata highway near Ruhitarpar in Bakerganj Upazila. According to local sources and eyewitnesses, a motorcycle travelling from Dhaka towards Bauphal collided with another motorcycle coming from the opposite direction. Both riders were thrown violently onto the roadway.

Emergency responders and local residents rushed the injured riders to the Bakerganj Upazila Health Complex. Upon arrival, doctors pronounced the younger rider, 23-year-old Saikat, dead. Saikat was a resident of Majhapara village in Madanpura Union, Bauphal Upazila, Patuakhali District. He was the son of the late Shahidul Islam and had been returning home from Dhaka on his motorcycle when the accident occurred.

The other rider, 45-year-old Alauddin, sustained severe injuries. He is an officer with BRAC and a resident of Lakutia village under Kauwania Thana, Barishal. Due to the seriousness of his condition, Alauddin was initially treated at Bakerganj Upazila Health Complex before being transferred to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SHEBACHIM) in Barishal for advanced care.

Law enforcement confirmed that the motorcycles involved have been secured for further investigation. According to the Officer-in-Charge of Lebukhali Highway Police Station, Md. Saidul Islam, legal procedures are underway, and the deceased’s body will be handed over to the family following formalities.

Residents have expressed shock over the accident, highlighting the increasing need for road safety measures on the busy Barishal–Kuakata highway. Authorities have urged riders to observe traffic regulations and exercise caution, particularly on highways connecting major towns and Dhaka.
