Published: 16 Feb 2026, 07:12 am

A sense of profound grief and insecurity has gripped the Kajla area of Jatrabari in the capital following the brutal stabbing of a 15-year-old madrasa student. The victim, identified as Md. Mahim Mia, was a student in the Hifz department of a local madrasa. He was reportedly ambushed by a gang of youths late on Sunday night, succumbing to his injuries shortly after being transported to the hospital.

Details of the Incident

The tragic event unfolded at approximately 10:00 pm on Sunday in the vicinity of "School Gali" in Kajla. According to Mahim’s friend, Rayhan, the teenager was on his way to meet an older acquaintance in the neighbourhood. As he entered the narrow alleyway, he was intercepted by a group of 10 to 12 youths.

Without warning, the assailants launched a frenzied attack, stabbing the boy multiple times before fleeing the scene into the labyrinthine streets of Jatrabari. Local residents discovered Mahim lying in a pool of blood and immediately alerted his family. His brother-in-law, Rafi, along with other relatives, rushed him to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). Despite their efforts, the attending physicians pronounced him dead at approximately 11:15 pm.

Law Enforcement and Medical Confirmation

Inspector Md. Faruk, the officer in charge of the DMCH Police Outpost, confirmed the fatality. He stated that the victim's body has been transferred to the hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination. The relevant police station has been notified to initiate a formal investigation into the murder.
