FENI, 3 March – A tragic accident in Parshuram, Feni, claimed the life of a local tea shop owner yesterday evening when a partially cut tree unexpectedly fell on him. The incident occurred in Baurpathar Village, within Parshuram Municipality, around 6:30 pm on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Md. Nur Karim Khokon, 40, the son of Abul Kalam of Ward 2 in Baurpathar. Nur Karim was well known in the area for running a small tea stall near the Hospital Mor intersection in Parshuram town.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that Abdul Khalek, a local resident, was engaged in cutting a tree along the roadside in the Hnalubagan area of Baurpathar. At the same time, Nur Karim was walking home from his tea shop. Tragically, the half-felled tree toppled onto him, leaving him gravely injured.
Local residents rushed to assist and immediately transported him to the Parshuram Upazila Health Complex. Despite the doctors’ best efforts, Nur Karim was pronounced dead on arrival. The sudden nature of the accident shocked the community, highlighting concerns over roadside tree-cutting practices in residential areas.
Speaking to the press, Officer-in-Charge Md. Ashraful Islam of Parshuram Model Police Station stated that police were notified promptly. Nur Karim’s body was recovered and sent to the Feni 250-Bed General Hospital morgue for autopsy. Legal proceedings are currently underway to determine accountability in the incident.
Authorities have advised residents to exercise caution near areas where tree-cutting is underway, emphasising the need for proper safety measures to prevent further tragedies.
