Mymensingh, 23 January — A police constable was critically injured in a violent assault at a checkpost in the Haluaghat area late on Thursday night. Constable Ejazul Haque Ejaz, while on duty in Paglpara, a neighbourhood in Haluaghat municipality, was reportedly attacked with a sharp weapon, sustaining severe injuries.
Eyewitnesses at the scene said that the incident occurred suddenly during routine police operations at the checkpost. Local residents rushed the injured officer to the Haluaghat Upazila Health Complex, where his condition initially stabilised. However, due to the seriousness of his injuries, he was quickly transferred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. Authorities have confirmed that he remains under intensive care.
Police acted swiftly following the attack. On the same night, Ruhul Amin Khan, aged 55, was apprehended in connection with the assault. Subsequently, at noon on Friday, his son, Lion Khan, was also arrested from the municipal area. Both individuals are now in police custody as investigations continue.
Mizanur Rahman, Additional Superintendent of Police for the Haluaghat Circle, stated:
“We have arrested Ruhul Amin Khan and his son, Lion Khan. Legal proceedings are ongoing, and we are conducting a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served.”
