Father and Son Die in Electric Shock While Operating Irrigation Pump

In Sundarganj, Gaibandha, a father and son died after being electrocuted while operating an irrigation pump. The accident occurred on Friday around 11:30 a.m. in the West Bachohati area of Sarbanand Union. The deceased are Shahidul Islam (45) and his son Shihab Mia (13) from the area.

According to police and locals, around 11:30 a.m., Shahidul Islam and his son Shihab went to operate their irrigation pump near their home to draw water from a pond for their paddy field. While starting the pump, Shihab accidentally got entangled in an electric wire. In an attempt to save his son, Shahidul also came into contact with the wire and fell into the pond. Both father and son were electrocuted and died instantly at the scene.

About half an hour later, Shahidul Islam’s wife, Chaina Begum, arrived at the scene. Upon seeing her son’s body, she screamed, prompting locals to rush to the spot. They first recovered Shihab’s body and brought it home. A short while later, villagers went back to the pond and retrieved Shahidul Islam’s body.

Abdul Hakim Azad, Officer-in-Charge of Sundarganj Police Station, said that the police inspected the scene after receiving news of the deaths. An unnatural death case has been filed at the police station in connection with the incident.
