Female Police Officer Dies by Suicide in Narail

A tragic incident occurred at the Narail Police Lines on Thursday night (19 March), when a female police officer reportedly took her own life in the women’s barracks. The deceased has been identified as 26-year-old Musa Noore Jannatul Chonya, daughter of Md. Dulal Mia of Talutnagar village under Daulatpur Police Station in Manikganj.

Chonya’s funeral was held on Friday (20 March) afternoon at the Narail Police Lines grounds, attended by colleagues, officials, and family members. Her body was subsequently taken to her family home in Manikganj.

Circumstances of the Incident

According to Narail Police Superintendent Md. Al Mamun Sikder, Chonya had been alone in a room within the women’s barracks on Thursday night. Between approximately 2:30 am and 3:00 am, she reportedly hanged herself using her scarf. Upon receiving a report, colleagues rushed to her aid and immediately transported her to the district hospital. Despite medical efforts, she was pronounced dead by attending physicians.

Family members revealed that Chonya had been experiencing mental distress and depression for several days prior to the incident. Authorities have confirmed that the death is being treated as a suicide, and appropriate procedures, including a post-mortem, were carried out before her funeral.
