Fifth Earthquake in 13 Days Strikes Narsingdi, Residents in Panic

Narsingdi experienced another earthquake on Thursday, 4 December, at approximately 6:15am local time. The epicentre was in Narsingdi, and the quake measured 4.1 on the Richter scale. This marks the fifth earthquake in just 13 days in the region, significantly heightening fear and anxiety among local residents.

So far, there have been no reports of major damage. Previously, on 21 November, a similar earthquake in Narsingdi resulted in five fatalities and hundreds of injuries. Numerous government and private buildings were damaged during that event.

Local residents reported that they were asleep when the tremors began. Furniture and beds shook violently, and after several successive tremors, they realised an earthquake was occurring. Panic prompted many to rush outdoors.

One resident said, “The epicentre is Narsingdi. Since there have been multiple earthquakes in quick succession, our level of fear has increased several times over.” Another, Shubhrojit, remarked, “The repeated quakes in Narsingdi are traumatising us. We are shocked and unsure of what to do.”

Swapan Mia, another local, added, “I was asleep during the quake and didn’t fully realise what was happening. Now, after repeated tremors, we fear what the situation might become in Narsingdi and across the country.”

Attempts to contact the Narsingdi Meteorological Office for comment were unsuccessful.
