Following the Thirteenth National Parliamentary elections, preparations are well underway for the incoming cabinet. The Cabinet Division has confirmed that a total of fifty official vehicles have been readied to accommodate the new ministers and state ministers. The swearing-in ceremony is tentatively scheduled for 17 or 18 February, though officials have indicated that it could occur slightly earlier if procedures are completed ahead of schedule.
On Tuesday, 10 February, the Cabinet Division provided details regarding the preparations. Officials emphasised that the allocation of fifty vehicles does not necessarily correspond to fifty individual ministers or state ministers. “More vehicles are prepared than the actual number of cabinet members,” a senior official explained. “While most ministers and state ministers will make use of the official cars, some may choose not to.”
Earlier, on 5 February, during a press briefing, the Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser outlined the expedited transition process. “Power transfer will occur at the earliest possible moment. If the swearing-in of parliamentary members is completed within three days, the leader of the majority party will then be called to take the oath as Prime Minister. This process could take place on 15 or 16 February. I do not anticipate it extending beyond 17 or 18 February,” the Press Secretary said.
The general election for the Thirteenth National Parliament is scheduled for 12 February. On the same day, a national referendum will be held to implement the National Identification Certificate. The timing and execution of these events are crucial to ensuring a smooth transition to the new government.
To provide a clearer picture of the logistical arrangements for the new cabinet, the following table summarises the allocation of official vehicles:
| Vehicle Allocation | Intended Users | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 50 | Ministers and State Ministers | Prepared in advance for all potential cabinet members |
| 20 | Expected to be used | Some ministers may choose not to use official cars |
| 30 | Reserved Vehicles | Kept for future use or urgent requirements |
Officials have also indicated that all arrangements regarding security, ceremonial protocols, and transportation will be fully in place by the day of the swearing-in. The provision of additional vehicles ensures flexibility, accommodating any last-minute changes in cabinet size or assignments.
The swearing-in ceremony marks a key milestone in the political calendar and will formalise the authority of the new ministers. By preparing logistics in advance, the government aims to ensure a seamless and orderly transition, demonstrating administrative efficiency and readiness.
