Final Gazette of 300 Parliamentary Constituencies Published

The Election Commission (EC) has issued the final gazette detailing the boundaries of 300 parliamentary constituencies for the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election. These boundaries will serve as the official basis for the election.

Key Changes in Constituency Allocation

• Gazipur: One additional constituency has been added, increasing the total to six.
• Bagerhat: One constituency has been removed, reducing the total to three.

Election Commission Secretary Akhtar Ahmed confirmed the information on Thursday evening, 4 September. He stated that the notification regarding the delimitation of the 300 parliamentary constituencies has been issued and will be published in the official gazette.

Process of Boundary Determination

1. Special Committee: A specialised committee worked on the delimitation ahead of the elections.
2. Draft Gazette: On 30 July, the EC published the draft boundaries for all 300 constituencies.
3. Maintaining Majority of Boundaries: Of the 300 constituencies, the boundaries of 261 seats from the 12th Parliament remained unchanged, while 39 seats underwent minor adjustments.
4. Public Consultation: Citizens were allowed to submit claims, objections, and recommendations regarding constituency boundaries until 10 August.

Public Feedback

• Total submissions received: 1,893
• Objections: 1,185, concerning 84 constituencies across 33 districts
• Suggestions and Recommendations: 708

Feedback was received from both supporters and opponents. The EC heard objections before considering suggestions.

A four-day hearing was conducted from 24–27 August to consider all claims, objections, and applications related to the proposed constituency boundaries. The EC Secretary stated that after thorough review, the final list would be published as soon as possible.
