In Chattogram, Bangladesh’s cricket squad geared up for the final T20 against Ireland, marking the last opportunity to fine-tune the side before the World Cup. During net practice, batting coach Mohammad Ashraful worked exclusively with Shami Hossain, while other players and bowlers focused on team drills.
Shami’s cover drive drew immediate feedback: “A lofted attempt would have resulted in a simple catch,” Ashraful remarked, praising Shami’s technique and inquiring if he wished to try other shots. Such personalised coaching highlights the attention given to player readiness ahead of major tournaments.
Shami had been left out of the first two T20s, which led to discussions and criticism directed at the selectors, particularly since Mahidul Islam, his replacement, did not feature in either match. Today’s encounter is therefore pivotal in assessing both players’ readiness for the February–March World Cup.
Bangladesh recovered from an opening loss to level the series, but a win in the decider is vital to retain home advantage and build momentum. Pace bowling coach Shaun Tait underlined focus over complexity: “We just aim to play good cricket and win. Every international victory adds to confidence.”
Tait praised the competitive spirit among pace bowlers, suggesting it will elevate performance standards. Ireland also treated the series as an opportunity to simulate World Cup conditions in India. Head coach Heinrich Malan noted, “Our first two matches clarified our methods. A series win today would provide significant confidence and preparation ahead of the World Cup.”
