Fire at Islamic Bank in Manikganj causes major damage

The microfinance section of the Islamic Bank’s Singair branch in Manikganj has been completely burnt in a fire. Furniture, computers, air-conditioners and decorations of the bank have been damaged, amounting to an estimated loss of around Tk 2.5 million.

The incident occurred at around 2:30 am on Sunday night at the Islamic Bank located in Dewan Plaza on Shahid Rafique Road in the upazila.

Local residents and bank sources stated that at around 2:30 am on Sunday night, a sudden fire broke out in the microfinance section due to an electrical short circuit. At that moment, the bank’s security guard noticed the fire and informed the fire service. By then, the blazing flames had already burnt the bank’s furniture and valuable items. Later, a team from the upazila fire station arrived and brought the fire under control.

Md Mohibur Rahman, in-charge of the upazila fire station, said that the fire is initially believed to have originated from an electrical short circuit.
