A fire erupted in an abandoned train carriage at Tejgaon Railway Station in the capital. Railway police have detained two suspects in connection with the incident and are questioning them.
The incident occurred on Wednesday night around 9:30 pm, according to Dhaka Railway District Superintendent of Police, Anwar Hossain. Speaking to Prothom Alo, he confirmed that the carriage was long abandoned at the station. Railway security personnel and locals quickly brought the fire under control.
SP Anwar Hossain added that the two individuals were handed over to the police after being detained by railway staff and locals, and they are currently under interrogation.
The fire took place on the eve of the Awami League-declared ‘Dhaka Lockdown’ campaign, during which public activities were restricted. On the same night, there were also reports of a cocktail explosion at Dhaka University’s TSC and in Karwan Bazar. In recent days, there have been multiple incidents of arson targeting buses across Dhaka and other areas.
