Gazipur, Bangladesh – A major fire broke out at a jute warehouse in the Nasir Market area under Konabari Police Station in Gazipur late on Friday night. Firefighters were promptly dispatched and managed to bring the blaze under control after a prolonged effort.
According to the Gazipur Fire Service, the incident began around midnight. The fire quickly engulfed the approximately 7,000-square-foot warehouse, destroying jute products, cartons, and other stored goods.
Three fire units responded to the emergency: two units from the Konabari Modern Fire Station and one unit from the Sarabo Modern Fire Station. After nearly two hours of intensive firefighting, the blaze was brought under control, preventing further spread to neighbouring buildings.
Mohammad Mamun, Deputy Assistant Director of Gazipur Fire Service, stated, “Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire may have been caused by an electrical short circuit. Fortunately, there were no casualties.” He estimated the financial loss at around 7 million Bangladeshi Taka, while the salvaged goods are valued at approximately 50 million Taka.
Local residents reported that thick smoke and flames were visible from a distance, causing panic in the surrounding area. “We could see fire and smoke rising from the warehouse. It was frightening, but thankfully, no one was injured,” said one nearby shop owner.
The warehouse, used primarily for storing jute and related products, suffered extensive damage. Authorities emphasised the importance of maintaining proper electrical systems and fire safety measures, especially in storage facilities housing flammable materials like jute.
