A fire service personnel tragically lost his life on Tuesday night after his motorcycle was struck by an unidentified vehicle on the Dhaka–Barishal Highway, near Uzirpur. The incident occurred at approximately 10:30 pm in front of the Sheikh residence on the northern side of the Ichhladi area.

The deceased, Pranto Mondal, was a resident of Rupdhan village in Patharghata Upazila of Barguna district, and the son of Pulin Mondal. He was returning from Dhaka towards Barishal when the fatal collision took place.

According to Md. Shamim Sheikh, the Officer-in-Charge of Gouranadi Highway Police Station, Pranto was riding his motorcycle along the highway when an unidentified vehicle struck him. “The motorcyclist was thrown onto the roadside and sustained critical injuries,” the OC explained.

Local residents alerted authorities immediately, and police rushed Pranto to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (ShyBMC). Despite medical efforts, he was declared dead on arrival. His body has been sent to the hospital morgue for post-mortem examination, and police have confirmed that legal proceedings are underway to identify the vehicle and driver responsible.

The Dhaka–Barishal Highway, a major arterial route connecting the capital with southern districts, has witnessed several fatal accidents in recent years, particularly during night-time hours. Authorities have urged motorists and motorcyclists to exercise extreme caution, adhere to speed limits, and maintain vigilance on high-traffic stretches to prevent further tragedies.

This incident has also raised concerns over road safety for emergency service personnel, who often travel long distances to respond to duties across districts. Local fire service colleagues have expressed grief over the loss, highlighting Pranto’s dedication and commitment to public service.
