As the nation heads to the polls in the upcoming general election, several celebrities are exercising their right to vote for the first time. Khairul Basar, Sunerah Binte Kamal, Jannatul Aishi, Sadia Ayman, Tasrif Khan, and Mahtim Shakib spoke about their expectations for the country and the kind of leadership they hope to see. Manjurul Alam engaged with them to learn their perspectives and aspirations for the nation.

Khairul Basar, actor:
“People anticipated a festive atmosphere around the election. Now, with Dhaka unusually quiet, ordinary citizens are heading to polling stations with genuine interest. I hope that leaders refrain from abusive language or mudslinging. Their conduct should remain civil and peaceful. I expect elected representatives to prioritise the country’s development and the welfare of the people.”

Sunerah Binte Kamal, actress:
“I am not a political expert, but I wish for the well-being of the nation. I hope for citizens’ rights, mental peace, and encouragement of creativity. Discipline across all sectors is essential; only then will the country advance.”

Jannatul Aishi, actress:
“I hope for peace, a better working environment, and adherence to the constitution. More employment opportunities must be created for the unemployed. If the government focuses on these areas, the lives of citizens will be more comfortable and secure.”

Sadia Ayman, actress:
“My expectation is for a safe environment and law enforcement. Everyone should be able to move freely without fear, and professional activities must remain free from interference.”

Tasrif Khan, musician:
“I hope for a fair election and a government that establishes justice. There must be no deceit in dealings with the public, and politics should not exploit religion for personal gain. The vision of a just society we imagined on 5 August should finally come true.”

Mahtim Shakib, musician:
“Peace and freedom are essential. Artists and musicians should be able to work without restrictions. Infrastructure and transportation problems must be addressed to benefit both citizens and the creative community.”
