Five Arrested for Stealing Doctor’s Bag After Posing as Journalists at Hospital

Police have arrested five individuals for stealing a doctor’s bag from the office of Dr. Mohammad Bahuddin, the supervisor of Manikganj 250-bed General Hospital. The accused entered the hospital posing as journalists, presenting visiting cards to gain access to the hospital, and then committed the theft, according to the victim, Dr. Bahuddin.

The arrests were made on Tuesday (November 11) afternoon from various areas of the city. The arrested individuals are Khondkar Jinnatun Nesha Mousumi, Md. Harun ar Rashid, Md. Bajlur Rahman, Md. Nahidur Rahman, and Md. Saiful Islam.

Among them, Mousumi works as a staff correspondent for the Daily Dhaka, Rashid is a staff reporter for Capital TV, Bajlur represents the Daily Business File, Nahidur is a roaming correspondent for The Daily Global Nation, and Saiful is the Manikganj representative for the same newspaper, as stated by the hospital authorities.

According to hospital and police sources, on Monday at around 10:00 AM, these five individuals, along with four others, entered the supervisor’s office at the Manikganj General Hospital, posing as journalists. They spent some time talking and left the office. Shortly after their departure, it was discovered that a bag had gone missing. CCTV footage revealed that Nahidur Rahman Shamim was seen leaving the office with the bag slung over his shoulder.

Dr. Bahuddin explained that the accused had initially presented themselves as journalists with visiting cards. After the bag went missing, when contacted through the phone numbers provided on the visiting cards, the accused assured them at first and later claimed that the bag was with the Freedom Fighters’ Parliament and that they could send someone to retrieve it. However, no trace of the bag was found at the claimed location. The stolen bag contained approximately 40,000 Taka, keys to the house and office, and important documents.

Confirming the arrests, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kamal Uddin of Manikganj Police Station said, “Five individuals have been arrested in connection with the bag theft. They have been sent to jail through the court, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects.”
