Delay in Annual Senate Session

Traditionally, the annual Senate session of Dhaka University is held in June each year. However, due to administrative complications, the session for this year did not take place in its scheduled month.

On 17th June, following the presentation of the proposed budget in the Abdul Matin Virtual Classroom at the university’s administrative building, Treasurer Professor Dr Jahangir Alam Chowdhury explained the delay. He cited:

  • Expiry of 25 teacher representatives’ tenure on 15th June.
  • Among the 35 registered graduate representatives, many were merely known as “associates”, creating a significant procedural barrier.
  • Absence of a government-nominated representative in the Senate as of yet.

These issues had previously prevented the arrangement of a Syndicate meeting as well.

Dr Chowdhury stressed that:

“This delay is not a result of negligence on our part. Rather, administrative complications have hindered our ability to conduct the Senate session on time.”

The appointment of the new Senate members is expected to pave the way for smoother university governance and facilitate the resumption of regular administrative activities at Dhaka University.
