Floods and Landslides Kill 933 in Southeast Asia

Severe floods and landslides have claimed at least 933 lives across four Southeast Asian countries. Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Sri Lanka have all been affected, with millions displaced. A rare storm in the Strait of Malacca triggered heavy rainfall and strong winds over the past week, causing widespread destruction.

In Sri Lanka, 334 people have died and at least 200 remain missing. Cyclone Ditwa struck the eastern regions, prompting a state of emergency. Approximately 20,000 homes have been destroyed.

Indonesia reports 435 fatalities, with many more still missing. Numerous residents remain trapped in flood-affected areas.

Thailand’s southern provinces have recorded 162 deaths, most near the Malaysian border. Seven provinces are among the hardest hit.

In Malaysia, fatalities are lower, but the damage is severe. Parts of northern Perlis remain submerged, two people have died, and thousands have sought shelter.
