Former UP Chairman Arrested with Weapons in Shariatpur

Shariatpur, Bangladesh – In a significant law enforcement operation, a joint task force arrested a former Union Parishad (UP) chairman and his wife after recovering a substantial cache of domestic weapons. The raid took place late on Tuesday night, 10 February, in the village of Bikenagar within Jajira Upazila’s Bikenagar Union.

The operation, which lasted from 9:00 PM to 2:30 AM, targeted the residence of Mostafizur Rahman, also known locally as Mojibar Madbar, the ex-chairman of the Bikenagar Union. Acting on intelligence reports regarding illegal arms possession, the joint forces conducted a thorough search of the premises.

According to officials, the raid led to the seizure of multiple weapons and related paraphernalia, alongside cash and communication devices. Both Mojibar Madbar and his wife were taken into custody for questioning and further investigation.

The recovered items include items commonly used for both personal defence and potential criminal activity, highlighting the seriousness of the case. Law enforcement authorities emphasised that the operation was part of an ongoing crackdown on illegal firearms in the district.

Residents of Bikenagar reportedly expressed relief at the swift action, citing growing concerns about firearms in the area.
