Four Arrested in Mymensingh Admit Role in Dipu Chandra Das Murder

In a harrowing development from Mymensingh, four individuals have confessed their involvement in the brutal murder of garment worker Dipu Chandra Das. The victims’ assailants appeared before the Senior Judicial Magistrate, Tahmina Akter Tamar, at the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Mymensingh on Thursday afternoon, where they gave detailed confessional statements.

The accused are identified as Tarek Hossain (19), Manik Mia (20), Nizamul Haque (20), and Azmal Shagheer (26), all employees of Pioneer Knitwears (BD) Limited, located in Dubaliyapara, Hobirbari Union, Valuka.

Inspector P.S.M. Mostachinur Rahman of Mymensingh Court Police confirmed that the case is under investigation by the Detective Branch (DB) of the district police. Following a period of remand interrogation, the four were presented in court and made full confessional statements, implicating themselves in the killing and naming several others allegedly involved. The accused were subsequently remanded to custody.

According to police reports, on the night of 18 December, Dipu Chandra Das was seized by colleagues at the factory, allegedly over accusations of religious desecration. He was brutally beaten and subsequently killed. The perpetrators then transported his body approximately one kilometre away to the Dhaka–Mymensingh highway near Square Masterbari, where he was tied to a roadside divider tree, stripped, and set ablaze.

Dipu Chandra Das, originally from Mokamiakanda village, Banihela Union, Tarakanda Upazila, was the son of Ravi Chandra Das. Following the murder, his brother, Apu Chandra Das, filed a case naming between 140 and 150 unknown individuals as suspects. In the subsequent police operation, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested seven people, and five others were taken into custody by local police. On 22 December, each of them was granted a three-day remand for further questioning.

Earlier this week, six additional suspects were taken into custody. The police have indicated that two more key factory personnel — floor in-charge Alamgir Hossain (38) and quality in-charge Miraj Hossain (46) — are scheduled to be presented in court on Friday, following the expiry of their three-day remand.

Abdullah Al Mamun, Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration), Mymensingh, noted that under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code, the accused provided critical information relevant to the investigation. While the details remain confidential for investigative purposes, Mamun confirmed that the confessions revealed the accused’s direct participation and identified additional individuals involved in the crime. With the latest arrests, a total of 18 people have now been apprehended in connection with the case.
