Four Businesses Fined Taka 55,000 in Rangpur for Violating Regulations

In a series of operations conducted today, a mobile court imposed fines totalling Taka 55,000 on four business establishments in Pirganj Upazila for various violations of regulatory laws. The joint drives were carried out by the Rangpur Divisional Office of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) and the Pirganj Upazila Administration.

The mobile court, led by Pirganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Executive Magistrate Khadija Begum, aimed to enforce adherence to local regulations and safeguard consumer rights.

Gulshan Hotel	Taka 20,000	Selling curd and sweets without the necessary certification (Weights and Measures Act-2018).
Sheikh Doi Ghar Hotel	Taka 10,000	Violating consumer rights (Consumer Rights Act).

The fines were imposed as part of the regulatory enforcement under Section 24(1)/41 of the Weights and Measures Act-2018 for businesses selling goods without the proper verification certificates, and the Consumer Rights Act for violations concerning consumer safety and protection.

Authorities Involved:

The BSTI prosecutors responsible for overseeing the operation were Md Towhid Al Amin, Field Officer (Certification Marks), and Md Almas Mia, Inspector (Metrology). They worked in close coordination with the local administration to ensure the drives were carried out smoothly and effectively.

Statement from BSTI

Speaking to BSS today, Mobin-Ul-Islam, Deputy Director (Physical) and Chief of the Rangpur Divisional Office of BSTI, emphasised that the divisional BSTI office would continue its efforts to ensure public safety and consumer rights. He assured the public that similar drives would be conducted regularly to prevent violations and maintain fair trade practices across the region.

The mobile court’s swift action highlights the importance of maintaining regulatory standards in business practices to ensure consumer safety, prevent fraud, and protect public interest.
