A mobile court in Narayanganj has imposed fines totaling BDT 45,000 on the election agents of four candidates contesting the Narayanganj-5 (City-Port) constituency for breaching the electoral code of conduct. The fines were handed down on Wednesday afternoon during an enforcement operation in the port area, led by Executive Magistrate Tarikul Islam of the district administration.
Magistrate Tarikul Islam stated that the violations included affixing unauthorised posters and stickers on vehicles, constructing illegal decorative arches on public roads, and other breaches of the electoral code. He emphasised, “It is the responsibility of each candidate and their representatives to strictly adhere to the election code of conduct. Our operations will continue to ensure free, fair, and peaceful elections.”
The details of the fined representatives, their respective candidates, symbols, and the nature of the violations are summarised in the table below:
| Candidate Symbol | Candidate Name | Violation Type | Fine (BDT) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wall Clock (Khelafat Majlis) | A. B. M. Sirajul Mamun | Unauthorised posters/stickers on vehicles | 10,000 |
| Chair (Islami Front) | Syed Bahadur Shah | Unauthorised posters/stickers on vehicles | 10,000 |
| Football (Independent) | Maksud Hossain | Unauthorised posters/stickers on vehicles | 10,000 |
| Sheaf of Paddy | Abul Kalam | Construction of unauthorised road arch | 15,000 |
Magistrate Islam added that the fined representatives were immediately instructed to remove all unauthorised posters and stickers from their vehicles. Furthermore, effective measures were taken to dismantle the illegal arch erected at the Keodala Bus Stand in Bandar Upazila during the night.
The administration underscored that these initiatives aim to ensure a disciplined and peaceful electoral environment. Officials confirmed that similar enforcement operations would continue to deter violations and uphold electoral integrity throughout the voting period.
“The candidates should caution their representatives and party workers to follow the law diligently during the election,” Magistrate Islam said. “The administration will take strict action against any breach of the code of conduct.”
Local authorities expressed hope that the campaign will raise public awareness about proper election practices and strengthen compliance with regulations. Continuous monitoring and swift corrective action are expected to reduce incidents of electoral code violations in the district.
