A shocking incident occurred on Saturday afternoon on the Rupsa Express, a passenger train travelling from Chilahati to Khulna, when stones were hurled at the moving train near Mobarakganj Railway Station in Kaliganj, Jhenaidah. The attack shattered one of the train’s windows, sending passengers into panic. Thanks to the swift action of railway authorities and local residents, four teenagers were immediately apprehended.
The incident took place shortly after 5:00 pm when the train approached Mobarakganj Station. Eyewitnesses reported that stones were thrown indiscriminately at the train, causing chaos among passengers. Many screamed in fright, alerting the train staff to the situation.
Responding promptly, the train was brought to a halt, and a joint team of railway personnel and locals conducted a search. Shakib Hossain, Foysal Ahmed, Nikunj, and Tanvir Hasan—all residents of Kaliganj town—were caught red-handed.
Shahjahan Sheikh, Station Master of Mobarakganj, emphasised the severity of the act, stating, “Throwing stones at a moving train is a serious criminal offence. It endangers the lives of passengers and can cause catastrophic accidents.”
The detained teenagers were handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP) stationed on the train and subsequently transported to Khulna Railway Station for further action. According to GRP officials, the necessary legal procedures are underway to ensure accountability. Quick intervention by the authorities prevented what could have been a major disaster, ensuring the safety of all passengers on board.
Railway officials and local authorities have highlighted the importance of heightened vigilance around railway tracks, especially near stations and populated areas. They have also urged the local community to cooperate in preventing such dangerous acts in the future.
