France’s economy saw a modest yet notable acceleration in growth during the second quarter of 2025, according to data released on Wednesday by the country’s national statistics office, INSEE. The increase comes despite a backdrop of global economic uncertainties, with household spending playing a significant role in the upturn.

According to INSEE, Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the eurozone’s second-largest economy expanded by 0.3% between April and June, outperforming both the 0.1% growth recorded in the previous quarter and the 0.2% forecast by analysts.

Quarter GDP Growth (%) Forecast (%)
Q1 2025 0.1
Q2 2025 0.3 0.2

The improvement reflects underlying resilience in domestic demand, particularly among consumers, and suggests some degree of insulation from ongoing challenges in the global economy, including trade disruptions, inflationary pressures, and geopolitical tensions.

French authorities and economic analysts view this data as cautiously optimistic, though they acknowledge the need to monitor external factors that may influence the pace of growth in the coming months.
