In a significant law enforcement action, Madhukhali Police have arrested Mithun Sarkar, 35, a fugitive sentenced to ten years in prison for drug-related offences. The arrest took place in Dumain Botpara village, located in Dumain Union of Madhukhali Upazila, Faridpur. Mithun is the son of Sudishtir Sarkar, a local resident.
According to police sources, Mithun was convicted under a Madhukhali police case (Case No. 02, 2016) and had been evading the law since the verdict. In addition to this conviction, he faces seven other pending cases across various districts of the country. Acting on a tip-off, police traced him to the Majhkandi area, where he was apprehended after years on the run.
The police operation also led to the detention of another individual connected to criminal activities in the region. Shahin Sheikh, 24, the son of Kabir Sheikh from Ujan Mallikpur village in Faridpur Sadar, was arrested for his involvement with an active theft syndicate. Both individuals were presented before the Faridpur District Court on Sunday, 15 March.
Madhukhali Police Superintendent Fakir Md. Taijur Rahman stated, “Acting on credible intelligence, we conducted a late-night raid on Mithun Sarkar’s residence at around 3 a.m. on Saturday, 14 March, and successfully apprehended him. Our investigation confirms he is involved in multiple other criminal cases, which are currently under review.” He added that the operation against Shahin Sheikh occurred around 2 a.m. on the same night, targeting organised criminal activities.
Police reports indicate the scope of Mithun Sarkar’s criminal involvement:
| Case Number | Year | Allegation | Verdict | Current Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 02 | 2016 | Drug-related offences | 10 years imprisonment | Fugitive until 14 March 2026 |
| Other 7 | 2017–2023 | Various criminal charges | Under investigation | Pending legal action |
The arrests are part of an ongoing effort by Madhukhali Police to strengthen law and order and curb criminal networks operating in the district. Residents have expressed relief at the arrests, noting that prompt police action is critical for community safety.
Superintendent Rahman further emphasised that thorough investigations will continue to ensure all pending cases against the arrested individuals are addressed, and that no fugitive remains at large. The Madhukhali Police have reiterated their commitment to proactive policing and the swift enforcement of the law, signalling a strong stance against organised crime and long-standing fugitives.
This operation highlights the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing in rural areas, reinforcing public confidence in local law enforcement. The authorities have pledged to maintain such vigilance to protect citizens and deter criminal activities across Faridpur district.
