Election Commissioner Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah has said that a general holiday will be declared on the day of voting, noting that the schedule for the 13th national parliamentary election will be announced within this week.
He made the remarks after a review meeting on the election schedule for the 13th parliamentary polls, referendum-related matters, and various issues before and after the election.
According to the decisions of the meeting, a letter will be sent to Bangladesh Television on Monday to record the election schedule. On the day the schedule is announced, meetings will be held at the field level in the evening.
From the day the schedule is announced, two magistrates will be deployed in each upazila to ensure compliance with the code of conduct. The number of magistrates will be increased five days before voting day.
Confirming that voting day will be a general holiday, he said banks and post offices will remain open as required by the Election Commission. He also said that after the schedule is announced, the advisory council will not be able to approve any new projects.
