India’s selection for the forthcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup has delivered a seismic jolt across the cricketing landscape, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) unveiled a squad filled with bold calls and unexpected omissions. The most startling decision was the exclusion of Shubman Gill, a player widely regarded as one of India’s most consistent performers in recent times and, notably, the vice-captain during the recent series against South Africa. Leading Jharkhand in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he produced a sensational campaign that redefined his standing among selectors.

Kishan finished the tournament as the leading run-scorer with 517 runs, including two centuries and two half-centuries. His most memorable contribution came on the grandest stage, the final, where he blasted a ferocious 101 against Haryana to guide his side to a commanding 69-run victory. Scoring at a staggering strike rate of 206.12, his innings featured 10 towering sixes and six boundaries. He further impressed behind the stumps, claiming two catches and earning the Player of the Final award. That all-round display effectively sealed his return to the World Cup squad.

Alongside Kishan, another left-handed batter, Rinku Singh, has also made his way back into the national setup.
