Leading international news organisations — Agence France-Presse (AFP), Associated Press (AP), Reuters, and the BBC — issued a joint appeal on Thursday, urging Israeli authorities to permit journalists to freely enter and exit Gaza, a region currently under an intense and prolonged blockade.
In the strongly worded joint statement, the agencies expressed grave concern over the deteriorating humanitarian situation faced by their colleagues on the ground:
“We are desperately concerned for our journalists in Gaza, who are increasingly unable to feed themselves and their families,” the statement read.
“We once again urge the Israeli authorities to allow journalists in and out of Gaza.”
This call underscores the growing alarm within the global media community regarding press freedom, humanitarian access, and the personal safety of journalists reporting from within Gaza.
The agencies reiterated the critical need for unhindered access to conflict zones, not only to uphold the public’s right to independent information, but also to ensure the well-being and survival of those tasked with delivering it.
