Protests erupted worldwide on Thursday in response to Israel’s interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla, which was carrying humanitarian aid for Gaza’s besieged population. Demonstrators called for stronger sanctions against Israel and condemned its blockade of the coastal territory, where the United Nations reports famine conditions after nearly two years of conflict.
The flotilla, comprising 41 ships and more than 400 participants, including politicians and climate activist Greta Thunberg, was halted by the Israeli navy from Wednesday onwards, preventing it from reaching Gaza, according to an Israeli official.
