Pakistani music fans are in for a treat as Goher Mumtaz, the frontman of the renowned band Jal, unveils his breezy new track ‘Har Saal’, featuring celebrated vocalist Aima Baig. The release marks Mumtaz’s first standalone collaboration with Baig, although their musical chemistry is far from new.

Written and composed entirely by Mumtaz, ‘Har Saal’ was released on Monday, accompanied by a music video that emphasises warmth and intimacy over spectacle. By including Jal in the project, the track becomes a three-way collaboration, highlighting the synergy between Mumtaz, Baig, and the band. Announcing the release on Instagram, Mumtaz kept the message succinct:

“Aima Baig x Goher Mumtaz x JAL.”

The music video, produced under Goher Mumtaz Productions, opens with Mumtaz experimenting with a melody on the keyboard before setting it aside in mild frustration and picking up his guitar—an instrument clearly more suited to his style. At this moment, Baig enters the scene, casually pouring orange juice, seamlessly joining the tune. The video captures a series of unguarded, natural moments: the two artists singing, jamming, and exchanging playful musical cues, all carried by a light, pop-forward melody that never feels forced.

Two weeks before the official launch, the duo teased ‘Har Saal’ with a short trailer. The introductory line read:

“Some stories are told in harmony.”

This phrase perfectly encapsulates the soft, romantic energy of the track.

Although this is their first official collaboration outside a film, Mumtaz and Baig have previously worked together. In Mumtaz’s 2024 film ‘Abhi’, in which he starred alongside Kubra Khan, the soundtrack featured contributions from Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Tanya Wells, Baig, Nish Asher, Mumtaz himself, and multi-instrumentalists Leo Twins. Within the film, Baig and Mumtaz lent their voices to the popular duet ‘Saathiya’, further cementing their on-screen musical rapport.

Reflecting on that collaboration, Mumtaz had said,

“All the songs picturised on Kubra have been sung by Aima.”

With ‘Har Saal’, the creative synergy between Mumtaz and Baig transcends cinema, resulting in a collaboration that feels entirely harmonious and organic. The track combines emotive lyrics, gentle instrumentation, and effortless vocal interplay, offering listeners a glimpse into a natural, joyous musical partnership.
