The government has approved separate proposals for the procurement of two cargos of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and two bulk carriers to address the increasing demand for energy and goods transportation within the country.

These approvals were granted during the 31st meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase for this year, held today at the Cabinet Division Conference Room at the Bangladesh Secretariat. The meeting was chaired by Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed.

Details of LNG Procurement

Following two distinct proposals from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, Petrobangla will procure one cargo of LNG from the spot market via an international quotation process from M/S Aramco Trading Singapore Pte Limited, Singapore. The contract is valued at approximately Taka 502.94 crore, with the price per MMBtu LNG at USD 11.97.

Additionally, Petrobangla will procure another cargo of LNG from the spot market through the same international quotation method from M/S PetroChina International (Singapore) Pte Limited, Singapore, valued at around Taka 484.38 crore, where the price per MMBtu LNG is USD 11.90.

Bulk Carrier Procurement

In response to a proposal from the Ministry of Shipping, the Bangladesh Shipping Corporation will acquire two bulk carriers. Each vessel will have a capacity of between 55,000 and 66,000 deadweight tonnes (DWT). The ships will be procured from Hellenic Dry Bulk Ventures LLC, New York, USA, at an estimated cost of Taka 935.71 crore.

Textbook Printing and Supply

The meeting also approved a proposal from the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education. Under this, the printing, binding, and supply procurement works for textbooks covering 96 out of 98 lots for classes 1, 2, and 3 for the calendar year 2026 were sanctioned, with a budget of approximately Taka 200.92 crore.
