The “MPO-Registered Education Nationalisation Alliance” has given the government one month to meet its demands, warning of a strike if their requirements are not fulfilled.
On Wednesday (13 August), following a meeting with the Education Adviser and Secretary, the announcement was made to teachers protesting in front of the Press Club. The declaration came from the alliance’s member-secretary, Principal Delawar Hossain Azizi, who was also part of the 12-member delegation that visited the Secretariat.
Delawar Hossain stated, “If our demands are not met within a month, we will observe a half-day work stoppage on 14 September, followed by full-day strikes on 15 and 16 September. Should the demands still be ignored, we will initiate a continuous sit-in in front of the Press Club starting 12 October.”
He added that the Ministry had communicated a recommendation to increase the house allowance for MPO-registered teachers and staff from 50% to 75%, with the proposal already forwarded to the Ministry of Finance. In addition, a proposal exists to raise the medical allowance from 500 to 1,000 taka.
The Ministry clarified that fulfilling all demands simultaneously is not possible and that discussions with the Finance Ministry will determine the necessary budget allocation. The alliance has reiterated its demand for the house allowance to be increased in percentage terms.
Delawar Hossain warned, “If our demands are not accepted and the due letter is not sent to the Finance Ministry, we will announce a new programme of action.”
Demands and Proposed Benefits:
| Allowance Type | Current Amount/Percentage | Proposed Amount/Percentage |
| House Allowance | 50% | 75% |
| Medical Allowance | 500 Taka | 1,000 Taka |
The alliance has emphasised that failure to address these demands will result in escalating actions to pressurise the government.
