Government Initiates New Fit List for Deputy Commissioners Ahead of Elections

Ahead of the national parliamentary elections, the government has taken steps to reorganize field administration. As part of this initiative, the Ministry of Public Administration has started preparing a new fit list of deputy secretaries for appointment as district commissioners (DCs).

It is reported that interviews of 10 deputy secretaries were held on October 29 for DC appointments. On Thursday, October 30, 20 more deputy secretaries were interviewed. Additionally, 10 more interviews are scheduled for Friday, October 31, a weekly holiday. Most of the 40 officers being interviewed belong to the 29th batch of BCS officers.

On October 29, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus held meetings with officials from various ministries, divisions, and agencies regarding election preparations. After the meeting, the Chief Adviser’s press secretary Shafiqul Alam stated that the fittest officers would be posted to the most challenging areas.

Officers will not be assigned to their home districts or their in-laws’ areas. It will also be ensured that no relative of the officer is contesting in the elections. The new posting process will commence on November 1.
