Grandfather arrested on rape charge of granddaughter, allegedly by luring her with a toy

Police have arrested a 60-year-old man named Romjan Kazi in Jashore on charges of raping a nine-year-old girl after promising to buy her a toy. The victimized child has simultaneously been admitted to Jashore General Hospital for treatment.

The accused was arrested from his house in Barbag village of Bagharpara Upazila on the night of Thursday (October 30).

The arrested Romjan Kazi is the son of the late Shahadat Kazi. The accused is the victim’s paternal grandfather.

The victim’s mother stated that her husband is a mason by profession and they reside in Narail city. Romjan Kazi, her father-in-law, came to visit them in Narail during the first week of October. While returning, he took her daughter along with him. After fifteen days, the mother came to Jashore on the morning of October 30 to bring her daughter back.

She further added that at that time, her daughter disclosed that her grandfather had raped her two days prior, after promising to buy her a toy. The girl pleaded with her mother to take her away from that house. Subsequently, the mother returned to Narail with her daughter and informed her husband of the matter. Later, they filed a complaint at the Bagharpara Police Station around 10 PM.

Fakir Taijur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bagharpara Police Station, confirmed that Romjan Kazi was arrested from his own house after an operation was launched immediately following the complaint. The victimized child was subsequently admitted to Jashore General Hospital around 1 AM for medical examination. He stated that the necessary legal action will be taken after receiving the medical report.
