Grian Chatten Covers Massive Attack for Peaky Blinders

Fontaines D.C. frontman Grian Chatten is set to deliver a haunting new cover of Massive Attack’s iconic track “Angel” for the forthcoming Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man soundtrack. The feature-length spinoff of the acclaimed crime drama will premiere in cinemas on 3 March, before arriving on Netflix on 20 March. The soundtrack will be released simultaneously via Milan Records.

The reinterpretation of “Angel” is one of two Massive Attack covers included in the soundtrack. Irish singer Girl In The Year Above contributes a rendition of “Teardrop”, while Amyl and The Sniffers’ Amy Taylor provides an original composition. Additionally, the album features a newly recorded version of Nick Cave’s “Red Right Hand” and a fresh collaboration between Chatten and Lankum, titled “Hunting The Wren”.

The soundtrack’s lead single, “Puppet”, was co-written by Chatten alongside Peaky Blinders composers Antony Genn and Martin Slattery and is available now.

Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man continues the story in 1940, several years after the original series concluded. It follows crime boss Tommy Shelby (portrayed by Cillian Murphy) as he confronts both personal and professional challenges amid the turbulence of World War II. The film also stars Rebecca Ferguson, Paul Anderson, Sophie Rundle, and Barry Keoghan. The original Peaky Blinders series concluded in 2022.

This marks Chatten’s second new track in as many weeks. On 12 February, he released “Flag”, a collaboration with Damon Albarn and Kae Tempest, for the upcoming War Child benefit compilation Help(2). Notably, Fontaines D.C. previously collaborated with Massive Attack on the 2023 benefit EP Ceasefire with Young Fathers, which raised funds for Doctors Without Borders’ relief efforts in Gaza and the West Bank.

Fontaines D.C.’s most recent album, Romance, was released in 2024. While Massive Attack have not issued new material since their 2020 Eutopia EP, the group confirmed in 2025 plans to release a collection of previously unreleased work via a new label in 2026, although it will not appear on Spotify.
