Gun Attack Targets NCP Leader in Gazipur, Motorcycle Stolen

In a brazen daylight incident, Habib Chowdhury, a senior member of the NCP’s Gazipur Metropolitan Committee, narrowly escaped harm after assailants opened fire and stole his motorcycle. Remarkably, no one was physically injured in the attack.

The incident occurred on Thursday, 8 January, around 1:30 PM, in the Mogorkhal Jugitala area under Basan Police Station in Gazipur city. According to eyewitness accounts and party officials, the attack was premeditated and linked to an online motorcycle sale.

Abdullah Al Muhim, Secretary of the NCP Gazipur Metropolitan Advisory Committee, confirmed the attack, stating that Habib Chowdhury had posted an advertisement online to sell his motorcycle. A young man contacted him expressing interest in purchasing the vehicle and lured him to an isolated area in Mogorkhal, claiming it was for a test ride.

“When Habib went to show the bike, one of the assailants took the documents while the other prepared to ride it. Suddenly, they fired two shots in his direction and fled with the motorcycle,” Muhim said. The assailants reportedly exaggerated the bike’s price to lure Chowdhury into a secluded spot.

Habib Chowdhury, the victim, described the harrowing experience:

“They claimed they would pay slightly more than my asking price. When I went to demonstrate the motorcycle, one of them grabbed my papers and the other called a companion. Then, without warning, they fired two bullets towards me.”

Local residents rushed to the scene after hearing the gunshots and promptly alerted the police.

Basan Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge, Mohammad Harun Or Rashid, confirmed that authorities were dispatched immediately to secure the area and investigate the incident. “Police are actively working to identify the perpetrators. Legal proceedings are underway, and the investigation is ongoing,” he said.
