Gunmen Shoot Inqilab Mancha Spokesperson Osman Hadi in Dhaka

Inqilab Mancha spokesperson and Dhaka-8 constituency parliamentary candidate Sharif Osman Hadi has been shot by unidentified assailants. He was immediately rescued and taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital following the attack.

The incident occurred at around 2:00 pm on Friday, 12 December. According to initial reports, in the Purana Paltan area of the capital, unidentified gunmen arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire on Osman Hadi. At the time, he was returning home after offering Jumu’ah prayers.

The matter was confirmed by Md Faruk, in-charge of the Dhaka Medical College police outpost. He stated that Osman Hadi was brought to the hospital with gunshot wounds and was receiving emergency medical attention.

This attack comes nearly a month after Osman Hadi claimed he had received death threats. On 13 November, he alleged that he had been repeatedly threatened via phone calls and text messages originating from foreign numbers. He stated that these threats had been directed at him continuously over several hours.

That night, in a post on social media platform Facebook, Osman Hadi wrote that during a span of three hours, he had received at least 30 calls and texts from what he described as “League’s killers,” all from foreign numbers. He asserted that the content of the threats suggested he was under constant surveillance. According to him, the callers threatened to set fire to his home, sexually assault his mother, sister, and wife, and ultimately kill him.

In his post, he further wrote that those issuing the threats claimed they would repay the “blood debt of 1,400 martyrs” by burning down not only his home but also by killing him if necessary. Despite these threats, he declared that he would not move even an inch from the struggle for justice and accountability.

Hospital authorities have not yet provided details on the extent of his injuries, and law enforcement officials have not released further information regarding the possible motive or identity of the attackers. An investigation is expected to be launched into both the shooting and the earlier threats that he had publicly reported.

The incident has sparked concern among supporters and observers, many of whom have called for immediate action to ensure his safety and to bring the perpetrators to justice. Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the progress of the inquiry.
