Hamin Ahmed Condemns Insult Against Tamim

The Bangladesh cricket fraternity has been plunged into renewed controversy after a provocative comment was made against former national captain Tamim Iqbal by a director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). The statement has not only drawn widespread social and national criticism but has also intensified debates over Bangladesh’s decision to refrain from participating in the T20 World Cup in India.

The incident took place on 7 January 2026, when Tamim, speaking at a public event, emphasised that decisions regarding international tournaments should prioritise the long-term interests of Bangladeshi cricket. He pointed out that approximately 90 per cent of the nation’s cricket revenue derives from the International Cricket Council (ICC), underscoring the financial and developmental significance of participating in global competitions.

Tamim’s remarks, however, were met with strong disapproval from Nazmul Islam, BCB’s Finance Committee Chairman. Nazmul posted a statement on Facebook, accompanied by a photograph of Tamim, declaring:

“Once again, a tested Indian agent has appeared before the people of Bengal.”

The comment provoked immediate backlash from the cricketing community. Hamin Ahmed, renowned vocalist of the popular band Miles, described the remark as “unacceptable and outrageous,” adding:

“Labeling Tamim Iqbal a ‘dalal’ is utterly disgraceful. The BCB must remove him from his position and demand an official apology.”

Several national cricketers, including Mahmudullah Riyad, Taijul Islam, Taskin Ahmed, Mehedi Hasan Miraz, and Saif Islam, also condemned the statement, describing it as inappropriate and damaging to the reputation of Bangladesh cricket.

BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul commented in a television interview:
“No player should be subjected to such remarks. They harm the dignity and integrity of our cricket.”

Moreover, the Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWA) filed a formal protest against Nazmul Islam’s statement, demanding accountability and remedial action to uphold professional standards.
