Hamza and Shomit Headline Final Bangladesh Squad

Just days ahead of their Vietnam tour, Bangladesh national football team coach Xavier Cabrera has trimmed his preliminary squad, releasing the final list of players for the upcoming friendlies and AFC Asian Cup qualifiers. From an initial roster of 28, six players were omitted, leaving a 22-man squad to represent the nation.

The team had been training in Dhaka over the past week, with sessions focused on tactical drills, fitness, and match simulations. A notable addition to the squad is Hamza Chowdhury, the Leicester City midfielder, who will join the team directly in Hanoi for the tour.

The six players who did not make the final cut are goalkeeper Ishak Akand, defenders Isa Faisal, Monzurur Rahman Manik, and Shakil Hossain, midfielder Sohel Rana Junior, and forward Rafiqul Islam. Coach Cabrera cited tactical balance and match readiness as key factors in his selection decisions.

The Bangladesh team is scheduled to depart for Vietnam on Friday night. They will first play a friendly against the hosts before proceeding to Singapore for their last match in the AFC Asian Cup qualifying campaign, where they will face the local team in a decisive fixture.

The final squad blends experienced campaigners with emerging talents, aiming to strike a balance between defensive solidity and attacking dynamism. Hamza Chowdhury’s inclusion is expected to bolster midfield creativity, while Shomit Som provides additional versatility in central areas.

Coach Cabrera has emphasised that the friendly against Vietnam will serve as a key test for team cohesion and match readiness before the high-stakes qualifier in Singapore. Fans will be keenly watching how the new-look squad adapts under pressure and whether the tactical adjustments translate into a competitive performance abroad.

With preparations complete and travel plans set, Bangladesh now look forward to their international campaign, hoping to make a strong impression on the regional stage.
