Soumyadeep Guha, a popular cinematographer from Kolkata, widely known as Vicky in Tollywood, was found hanging at his residence. He was 40 years old at the time of his death. The news was confirmed to Indian media by director Raja Chand. On receiving the sudden news, he visited the cinematographer’s house in Koshba. The police were busy recovering Soumyadeep’s hanging body. The late cinematographer had worked for 15 years with director Premendu Bikash Chakir.

Premendu stated that Vicky was likely struggling with depression due to work and may not have been getting the assignments he expected. Friends of Vicky also mentioned that he had withdrawn somewhat due to a lack of work. He had discussed this matter with the director as well. Swapnan Majumdar, secretary of the cinematographers’ guild, said that Vicky’s body has been sent for post-mortem.

The body will be handed over from NRS Hospital in the evening. The cinematographer’s ancestral home is in College Street. The family will decide whether the final rites will take place in North or South Kolkata. It is reported that the federation has allocated 15,000 taka for Vicky’s family, to cover the funeral and associated rituals. Swapnan further added that since Vicky leaves behind a wife and a daughter, the federation president, Swarup Biswas, will discuss if any additional support can be provided for them.
