Harry Styles’ ‘American Girls’ Debuts at No. 1 Globally

Harry Styles has once again claimed a major milestone in his career, as his latest single, “American Girls,” launches at No. 1 on both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts. This marks Styles’ third No. 1 on the Global 200, following “Aperture” (one week at the summit in February) and “As It Was” (15 weeks in 2022). On the Global Excl. U.S. chart, he earns his second chart-topper after the 13-week reign of “As It Was.”

Both “American Girls” and “Aperture” are featured on Styles’ newest album, Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally., which debuted at No. 1 on the U.S.-based Billboard 200, underlining the English singer-songwriter’s ongoing international appeal.

The Billboard Global 200 and Global Excl. U.S. charts, introduced in September 2020, rank songs based on streaming and sales activity across more than 200 territories worldwide, as compiled by Luminate. The Global 200 aggregates worldwide data, while the Global Excl. U.S. chart excludes activity from the United States.

Chart positions are determined using a weighted formula that accounts for official streams on both subscription and ad-supported tiers of audio and video music platforms, as well as download sales from full-service digital music retailers. Notably, sales from direct-to-consumer (D2C) platforms are excluded. In its first week (6–12 March), “American Girls” achieved 50.9 million streams and 3,000 sales globally, securing its No. 1 debut.

Other major chart movements this week include:

Global 200 Position Previous Position Notes
American Girls – Harry Styles 1 Debut; 50.9M streams, 3K sales
Stateside – PinkPantheress & Zara Larsson 2 2 Holds position
Risk It All – Bruno Mars 3 1 Drops from No.1 last week
Man I Need – Olivia Dean 4 2 Repeats position
DtMF – Bad Bunny 5 3 After five weeks at No.1 earlier

On the Global Excl. U.S. chart, “American Girls” leads with 30.6 million streams and 1,000 sales outside the U.S. PinkPantheress and Zara Larsson’s “Stateside” remains at No. 2, while Bad Bunny’s “DtMF” slides to No. 3 after four weeks atop the chart earlier this year. Taylor Swift’s “The Fate of Ophelia” moves from 3 to 4, and Olivia Dean’s “Man I Need” drops from 4 to 5.

The updated charts (dated 21 March) will be published on Billboard.com tomorrow, 17 March. While the top 100 titles are freely accessible, the full 200-song rankings are available on Billboard Pro, Billboard’s subscription-based service. For real-time updates, fans can follow @billboard and @billboardcharts on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram.

Luminate, Billboard’s independent data partner, meticulously verifies all submissions, removing any suspicious or unverifiable activity before publishing final chart rankings. This rigorous process ensures that the charts continue to accurately reflect genuine global music consumption.
