Fourteen-year-old Indian batting prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi has taken the cricketing world by storm. Playing for India ‘A’ in the Rising Stars Asia Cup, the young right-hander produced an astonishing innings that instantly earned him the label of a future superstar.
Vaibhav smashed a 32-ball century, equalling the second-fastest hundred in Indian boys’ cricket history. Before being dismissed, he blasted 144 runs off 42 balls, including 11 fours and a staggering 15 sixes. His strike rate, temperament and sheer power left fans and experts awestruck.
Yet, despite such an extraordinary performance, one person remained unimpressed—his own father.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released a video yesterday capturing Vaibhav speaking to his father after the match. While his father congratulated him for the innings, he also pointed out the one moment that disappointed him—the shot that got Vaibhav out.
In the video, his father says:
“If you had lifted that shot a little higher over cover, it would have gone for six.”
Vaibhav laughs and replies:
“I didn’t time it properly. The ball arrived a bit slower.”
He then adds with a smile:
“It’s very hard to make my father happy. Even if I scored 200, he’d say I should have scored more. But my mum is different — whether I score zero or a hundred, she’s always happy.”
Vaibhav’s rise is not limited to age-group international cricket. Remarkably, he has already made his mark in the Indian Premier League (IPL). In just seven innings, he has amassed 252 runs at a blistering strike rate of 206.56, with one century and one half-century to his name. His tally of 18 fours and 24 sixes further highlights his natural attacking ability.
| Tournament | Innings | Runs | Strike Rate | Fours | Sixes | Centuries |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rising Stars Asia Cup | 1 | 144 | 340+ | 11 | 15 | 1 |
| IPL | 7 | 252 | 206.56 | 18 | 24 | 1 |
Cricket analysts have already begun calling Vaibhav one of India’s most exciting young prospects. His father’s tough-love approach, many believe, may well be shaping him into an even more determined and disciplined cricketer.
With such remarkable talent at such a young age, Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s journey is only beginning — and the cricketing world will be watching closely.
