Head-on Bus Collision Injures 20

A serious road accident on the Kishoreganj–Bhairab highway left at least 20 passengers injured after two long-distance buses collided head-on at Nandala area on Thursday night.

The incident occurred at around 10:00 PM when a Dhaka-bound bus of Ashim Paribahan, travelling towards Karimganj from the capital, collided with a Minhaz Paribahan bus coming from Netrokona en route to Chattogram. The impact of the collision was so severe that both vehicles were extensively damaged and left mangled on the roadside.

According to police and local witnesses, the crash took place near Nandala Bazar, a busy roadside point along the highway. Immediately after the collision, residents rushed to the scene and assisted in rescuing injured passengers trapped inside the wreckage. Emergency efforts continued until law enforcement arrived and took control of the situation.

Several of the injured were taken to different medical facilities for treatment. Among them, two critically injured passengers were transferred to hospitals in Dhaka for advanced care due to the severity of their conditions. Others are being treated at local healthcare centres, including the district-level medical facilities.

Authorities confirmed that the driver of the Minhaz Paribahan bus sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment. However, the driver of the other bus reportedly fled the scene following the accident, according to police statements. An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the collision, with preliminary indications suggesting possible reckless driving or a loss of control on the busy highway.

The accident caused major disruption to traffic flow on the Kishoreganj–Bhairab route, with a significant congestion forming soon after the crash. Vehicular movement remained suspended for nearly two hours until police and highway authorities cleared one of the damaged buses using a recovery crane, restoring partial normalcy.

Officials have assured that legal proceedings will be initiated once the investigation identifies those responsible.
